How to Solve Problems More Effectively

If you are given the job of manager in most businesses, you will usually be given some form of training in good leadership and appropriate management skills such as decision-making and problem-solving. Isn’t it a bit crazy that we provide little to no training to parents about how to manage the complicated and often overwhelming job of running a family, a job that is 24-7 with no paid sick leave or vacation time? No wonder so many moms and dads feel frustrated, out of control and in over their heads!

A helpful resource if you feel you could use some help in the area of problem-solving is a short, to the point, playfully illustrated book by Ken Watanabe, a former McKinsey business consultant. Check out Problem Solving 101: A Simple Book for Smart People. What is wonderful about this book is that it will appeal to older children and teens as well as parents. The author originally wrote the book for Japanese schoolchildren to help bring skills in critical thinking to the Japanese public school system. When his book became a Japanese bestseller, he was pleasantly surprised to find that adults were hungry for the same material. How wonderful and rare to find a book where parents can learn right along with their kids. Check it out…
